Emirates will put you up in Dubai for free, meals, airport transfers and even the UAE visa included, when your connection lands in the 6-to-26-hour window. The catch is a fare floor and a claim process that hides inside Manage Booking. Most eligible passengers never find it.

The short version

What you get
Free hotel room, meals by check-in time, airport transfers, UAE visa waived if you need one
Connection window
At least 6 hours, at most 26 hours, all cabins (Emirates' official T&C uses the same 6-26h rule for First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy)
Fare minimum (base + carrier surcharge)
$450 one-way / $700 return for most regions, including the Americas
Ticket requirement
Single Emirates ticket (176 stock); Emirates or Qantas-marketed flights; must be the shortest available connection
Hotels used
Copthorne Dubai, Le Méridien Airport, JW Marriott Marquis, or similar, airline's pick

How it works

Two conditions decide everything. First, the timing: your Dubai connection must be 6-26 hours AND be the shortest connection available for your route that day. You cannot cherry-pick a longer layover to force eligibility. Second, the money: your base fare plus carrier surcharge must clear $450 one-way or $700 return (Americas threshold). Bottom-bucket promo fares often miss the floor even when the timing fits.

Clear both and Emirates covers hotel, meals appropriate to your check-in time, transfers both ways, and the visa if your nationality needs one. Award tickets booked through Emirates Skywards qualify too.

How to claim it, step by step

  1. Book your Emirates itinerary on one ticket. Check that the Dubai connection falls in the window.
  2. Go to Manage Booking and request Dubai Connect before you travel. It is not automatic, and travelers report the option is easy to miss. If you cannot find it, call Emirates.
  3. Save the confirmation. Some travelers report no separate hotel email arrives.
  4. On landing: clear immigration, then find the Dubai Connect desk to collect your hotel vouchers.

What's free and what's not

Free: room, meals, transfers, visa (when required). Not free: anything you do in Dubai, minibar, and your time if you fail to request it in advance, because an unclaimed Dubai Connect is simply gone.

Where people screw this up

  • Cheap fare, no perk. The $450/$700 floor is measured on base fare + surcharge, not the total with taxes. Deep-discount buckets fail it.
  • Booking the longer connection on purpose. Must be the shortest available. The system checks.
  • Codeshares. Flights marketed by other carriers (except Qantas) do not qualify. flydubai counts only via Terminal 3 on an Emirates-marketed ticket.
  • Not requesting in advance. Show up unrequested and there is no room waiting.

FAQ

Does it work from the US?

Award tickets?

No. Emirates assigns the hotel.
